Artful British Knitwear Inspired by Myth and Nature

The Brand

HANDMADE IN BRIDGE is an independent British label where I create artful, handcrafted knitwear in my cottage studio in the historic village of Bridge, Canterbury. Each piece is inspired by myths, folk tales, antique textiles, and the wild beauty of the natural world — blending the timeless Fair Isle technique with storytelling knitted art.

Every design begins life as a hand-drawn sketch on paper, then is transformed into a knitting pattern and brought to life on a hand-operated vintage knitting machine. I work with luxurious merino wool yarn, chosen for its quality, comfort, and traceable ethical sourcing, to create sustainable knitted art in imaginative colour combinations.

I'm a one-woman studio — I design, knit, finish, and pack every order myself, from the first sketch to the final stitch. My designs pay homage to Fair Isle tradition while telling stories through myth-inspired patterns — from mythic women of the sea and goddesses to sacred symbols. Each piece is a work of art — wearable, collectible, and timeless.

This is knitwear with soul — rich in heritage, unapologetically unique, and born from myth — made for a lifetime.

Sustainability

I believe beautiful things should be made with respect for the planet. My merino yarn comes from non-mulesed sheep in Spain, is spun locally in England, and dyed with OEKO-TEX certified dyes. It’s fully biodegradable, and I use minimal, recyclable packaging.

As part of my slow fashion ethos, every piece — whether a handmade scarf, shawl, or mittens — is made to order, which takes about two weeks to create. This ensures nothing is made unnecessarily and every item receives the care it deserves. I also welcome personalised commissions if you’d like something truly one of a kind.
